Albany's Historic Whaling Station
100% must visit, great value for money for the whole family. Such a unique museum and gallery that I don't think you will ever see anywhere else. Oh how our hearts were moved by the stories of the whalers and the whales and the sharks. Really eye opening for the kids (8 and 10 yo) to see the different perspectives of the whaling industry, in the context of its time. The whaling ship - amazing.Includes entry to the wildflower and wildlife park next door.I would say, spend at least half a day here.

Great place to see history and how we have changed. Interesting to see what materials we used and how we have evolved. Life was what is was back then and everyone had to have a job to survive as brutal as whaling was but thats is life. The walk around and flow of the venue is great, very thought out and well designed. Some surprises sleeping in beds just waiting to scare you!! Loved loved loved walking in the ship and seeing how small and tight things would have been. Those men really earn there $$$$$ back then.

Very informative and interesting. Leave at least 2 hours, lots of reading and displays. Be aware the 3D experience last viewing is at 4.15pm, though if you miss it you can ask at the front desk they will let you come back the following day!

Definitely worth a visit if you're in Albany to learn about Australia's whaling history. Tickets are a bit pricey ($35) but it's a huge museum and that includes entry into the Australian Wildlife Park and botanic gardens next door. Plan to spend the better part of a day here to see everything. Some of the scenes are pretty graphic but they're clearly labeled so you can avoid them if you'd like. I did find it interesting there wasn't really any remorse expressed for the thousands of whales killed, but perhaps that's my personal feelings.

Really enjoyed the narrated tour and the look around the whaling station and boat. History can be very unpleasant and what happened here cannot be looked upon with any pleasure. This said, this is part of Aussie history and it is good that these stories are kept alive. Cant believe this was a place for school trips when the station was up and running 'processing' whales! Fantastic experience was a lot better than I thought it was going to be with so much information and activities to do.Budget 3 hours to see everything, as included in the ticket price, there is also a wildlife park and gardens to explore. There was plenty of parking, and a swimming beach next door.

Incredible history Albany has and this site is so well presented for all to see what life was like back then.If you are serious about reading and learning about Whaling give yourself a minimum of 4hrs to see everything. There are plenty of films and information stations so well worth the visit. I loved it and learnt so much about whales.

I wasn't sure what to expect but found the station's history fascinating and a balanced perspective on the importance of whaling in our early history right through to its cessation in 1978.The walk around the whaling ship particularly places you into the experience of the crews. Very worth a visit.

A gruesome but educational piece of well preserved history. I learned alot of things I didn't know and never realised that Australia was whaling right up until 1978. Everything was very well documented. Some of the photos were a bit gory but you are warned beforehand. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable.

Very interesting. A lot of effort put into a lot of what's on offer. Allow plenty of time if you want to look at everything. I will be back again.
